But when Serbian company Art of Kinetik hit the international waters in 2007 with its flagship 62ft Hedonist, it was impossible to ignore. Its designs were some of the most exciting on the market – and helped by components made in Germany and engines created by Rolls-Royce, it had the build quality to back them up.
The company’s newest launch, the Antagonist, may be a baby brother at just 37ft, but this open weekend cruiser is no less impressive. With clean elegant lines reminiscent of early Rivas, the Antagonist is made from sleek teak and has a deep wooden hull which houses a large air-conditioned interior with storage space, bathroom, cushioned seating and work bench.
Up top it has an especially large open cockpit, which makes it ideal for entertaining. There’s a spacious area for sunbathing, a table for drinks, and a built-in swimming platform at the stern. Our favourite detail, though, is the pilot’s chair. It took more than nine months to engineer and features an integrated storage space which conceals a picnic box and refrigerator. Champagne, anyone?
