The five-star shooting experience celebrating game season in style

There’s only one way to mark the height of game season – an afternoon’s shooting with Purdey and a Michelin-starred dinner at St James’s Hotel & Club in Mayfair

Grab your tweed jacket, fill your hip flask and load your shotgun, game season is in full swing and it’s time you got involved. Don’t pack your bags for the country, though, all you need is a quick journey to Mayfair to enjoy your favourite outdoor pursuit.

St James’s Hotel & Club has turned its attention to the fine English tradition of shooting this winter, pairing with the world’s best gunmaker Purdey and the West London Shooting School to offer a truly unique experience of game season.

It starts with a 12-mile trip out of the Capital to the West London Shooting School. Founded in 1901, the school is situated in more than 50 acres of manicured lawns and beautiful woodland. As one of the first schools in the UK, it is famed for its excellent facilities and quality of tuition for beginners.

Guests enjoying this five-star shooting experience will have the rare chance to shoot with Purdey’s world-renowned guns – no mean feat, when you consider their six-figure price tag – as Alan Rose and his team of expert tutors take you through your paces in a two-hour session. Even if you’re a crack shot, they'll be able to offer valuable advice to tune your skills.

Having worked up an appetite, it’s back to St James’s Hotel and Club for a sumptuous game tasting menu courtesy of Michelin-starred William Drabble, head chef of Seven Park Place. Expect the finest of the season’s delicacies including grouse, venison, mallard and truffle – having spent the day in the countryside, what else would fit the bill?

As one of the smallest Michelin starred restaurants in Europe, you are guaranteed a secluded, romantic dinner before retiring to one of St James’s 60 beautiful rooms and suites.

The days may be getting shorter, and the cold settling in for winter, but now is the perfect time to celebrate the game season in style.

An overnight stay at St James’s Hotel and Club, with a lesson at the West London Shooting School, and a Game Dinner at the Michelin Starred Seven Park Place starts from £523 per night. For more information, see stjameshotelandclub.com
