Singer, songwriter, producer – Wauve is quite the polymath.

He learned how to produce music by watching YouTube videos as a teenager, gradually honing his craft by producing beats for YouTubers while studying part-time in creative music production and business.

His own music draws inspiration from a hybrid of influences, notably his East African heritage (he hails from Eritrea), combined with crossover trap / R&B melodies.

He's also a stylish guy: check out the My Style Essentials article we did with Wauve to learn more about his wardrobe.

Firstly, however, let's take a trip around his life and his London.

Me

What upcoming project(s) are you most excited about?

Looking forward to Bryson Tiller’s next project, whenever it does drop. Ready to be in my feelings again lol.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment?

Releasing and hitting my first one million streams on my song “Stay Dreamin” was a crazy moment for me personally! Hit that milestone right at the start of the new year.

What do you hope to achieve that you haven’t yet?

I hope to release a project this year with a concept and music and that I’m fully happy with, and be able to create a live show that translates the messages from the music really effectively. I’d be very proud of myself for achieving that. It’s all about the art.

Outside of your family, who is / was your biggest inspiration?

In terms of strictly inspiration, I’d probably say my father because his life story is just amazing, starting from humble beginnings back home in a village in Eritrea. He showed me from an early age that absolutely anything is possible in this life and taught me a lot about manhood. I always tell him I hope to help him write/publish a book on his life in the future.

Tell us something nobody knows about you…

I used to play football at semi pro level before I started taking music seriously.

My London

What do you love most about London?

I love how fast paced the city is. I know it may put a lot of people off but personally it drives me forward & motivates me to do more rather than making me feel like I’m always chasing something.

What would you change about London?

Hurts me to say anything bad about the city I’ve lived in my whole life, but I’ve started driving recently, and I have to be honest...the traffic, and parking situations. Haha it can actually be a joke sometimes.

What is your favourite London pub / bar?

I don’t really go to pubs/bars often now that I think of it. But there’s a hidden gem I found called Bun & Bar. That is a MUST if you’re ever passing through north London. Found it a while back and since then it’s been my go to, mainly for food though! Only really drink on special occasions.

What is your favourite London restaurant?

Right now I think I’d say Honest Burgers. They have a vegan burger that slaps differently! It tastes so much like (& I would say even better than) actual meat that you wouldn’t believe it was plant based. I’m part-time vegan at the moment lol.

Where would you take someone on a London date?

The Big Easy near Canary Wharf. It’s a nice lobster restaurant/bar with a good view & good vibes... I believe you can tell a lot about a girl by how she eats lobster! Not being afraid to get stuck in is a sign that she’s more down to earth. Trust me, I’m a Cancer so I’m an expert at these things, haha. Also there’s this nice garden in the area which is good for a stroll/getting to know them more.

If you’re visiting London, what’s the one thing you MUST do?

Defo hit one of the local football pitches. The one thing London does have is the passion for the game. So you’re bound to have an intense match with even randomers.
