Canadian-rapper Dax is one of the most vital talents in the industry.

Hard-hitting lyrics combine with wildly creative music videos to make an artist you can't ignore – as his millions of YouTube subscribers attest to.

He has a colourful biography, too: a former basketball prodigy who worked part-time as a janitor before his music career took off.

"Write goals and attack them," is Dax's top lockdown tip.

Here's one of ours: listen to Dax.

And read the interview below.

My life

What upcoming project(s) are you most excited about?

I have a project coming out that's more primarily rap based, which I am very excited about. It tells a lot of stories and describes a lot of my thought processes.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment?

Graduating college. I'm 26 so I've been in school for the majority of my life, so finishing that was great.

If you could change one thing about your career, what would it be?

Nothing. Everything has led me to where I am and I believe where I am is where I'm supposed to be.

What do you hope to achieve that you haven’t yet?

I have a bunch of goals. Would love to sellout an arena tour. Once I do that I believe that my impact will have officially reached most of the world.

Outside of your family, who is / was your biggest inspiration?

Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.

Tell us something nobody knows about you…

My favourite food is rice.

My lockdown

How are you finding lockdown?

It's tough but I'm using it to be VERY productive. My work has never been done in groups so it hasn't been a large adjustment.

Best thing about lockdown?

Having no excuse but to think and create. I truly believe it is a big opportunity for the cream of the crop to rise and separate themselves from the pack in multiple fields.

Worst thing about lockdown?

Lack of contact with society.

Top tip for surviving lockdown?

Write goals and attack them.

If you could be locked down with one person, alive or dead, who would it be?

My future wife.

What are you most looking forward to doing once lockdown is over?

Going back on tour.
