Tranquility is a tricky concept to pin down but Bingham Riverhouse might have managed it.

As the name suggests, the Richmond hotel and members’ club sits directly on the Thames and there can be few more idyllic spots in London that its terrace on a summer's evening.

Bingham is widely considered one of London’s finest boutique hotels. Owned and operated for more than 30 years by the Trinder family, and recently refurbished by award-winning interior designer Nicola Harding, the property offers old-school family service within all the modern amenities and decor.

Resembling a Georgian manor straight out of Bridgerton doesn't hurt in the aspiration stakes, either. Make no mistake, this is a seriously beautiful space, from the lounge to the bedrooms.

It's also quite a buzzy one: our visit coincided with the weekly Games Night, offering everything from backgammon to poker. Play your cards right and you could even cover the cost of your stay!

The kitchen is led by Masterchef: The Professionals winner Steven Edwards and also has a private members’ club offering. The menu is seasonal and focused on British produce – we recommend you opt for the tasting option.

Sample delights such as 'marmite bread' (you'll either love it or love it), Edwards' signature dippy egg, and main courses such as sumptuous John Dory or pork fillet. The food is further complimented by the view outside the window and the general sense of bonhomie.

Not feeling hungry? You can pick between two to five courses, with discounts for members. Wine courses included, naturally. Even if you don't stay at the hotel, the Riverhouse is worth the trip to Richmond.

Oh yes, the membership – Bingham offers three separate membership options. They are as follows.

  • Riverhouse Membership: the single house membership includes a workspace, priority reservations, exclusive use of the members drawing room and exclusive members-only events.
  • Bhuti Membership. Tied in with the Riverhouse sister company, the nearby health and wellness centre Bhuti, the Bhuti membership includes unlimited classes, including everything from Pilates and yoga, to gong baths and shakti dancing. Discounts on the treatments, too.
  • Flow Membership: allows you the freedom to flow in and out of both Bhuti and the Riverhouse, with the added bonus of a luxurious treat on your birthday. We say go with the Flow.

Great food, beautiful views and splendid accommodation all packed into one. Get yourself down to the river.
