R.L Seale's 10 Year Old Rum, Barbados
70CL / 46% – £39.55
After Jamaica, Barbados is the next country that people think of when it comes to rum. This is the terrific flagship rum from Richard Seale, the famous Bajan rum producer and enfant terrible of the industry. Seale only bottles pure rum - uncoloured and unsweetened. thewhiskyexchange.com

Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva Rum, Venezuela
70CL / 40% – £41.95
This rum is probably responsible for more people falling in love with rum than any other brand. A fabulous Venezuelan dark golden rum, distilled from sugar honey in a copper pot still before 12 years of ageing. Rich, sweet and fruity, it sips, mixes and is a must for any bar. thewhiskyexchange.com

Clairin Sajous 2015, Haiti
70CL / 51% – £43.95
Rum is normally thought of as dark but this pure, fruity, herbaceous white version is what rum is all about. Pure sugar cane juice is distilled and then bottled unaged by this tiny artisanal producer based in the middle of nowhere. It is as rustic and authentic as it gets. It is a perfect example of an Agricole rum, and exactly the style they would drink in Haiti. The 2015 vintage of Clairin Sajous is double distilled at the Chelo distillery in the village of St Michel de l'Attalaye. thewhiskyexchange.com

70CL / 43% – £50.95
El Dorado 15 year old is a remarkable rum, whose greatest achievement was collecting the Wray & Nephew Trophy for Best Rum in the World at the International Wine & Spirits Challenge for an unprecedented four years running. It offers a perfect balance of personality, sweetness and fruitiness. This really is one for the connoisseur. thewhiskyexchange.com

Plantation Extra Old Barbados Rum 20th Anniversary, Barbados
70CL / 40% – £51.45
A wonderfully rich, sweet style that deserves to be sipped in a leisurely fashion. The rums are initially aged in the Caribbean in ex-bourbon casks then transported to the Charente in France (home of Plantation's owner, Cognac producer Pierre Ferrand) where they undergo a second maturation in small French oak casks for added richness and spice. It won The Whisky Exchange Spirit of the Year 2016. thewhiskyexchange.com

Bacardi Facundo Exquisito Rum, Bahamas
70CL / 40% – £99.95
Bacardi is synonymous with white rum, but it is less well known that the company actually produces some outstanding premium dark examples. Rich and sweet with notes of vanilla, cinnamon, toffee and dried fruit, this is best enjoyed neat after dinner. thewhiskyexchange.com

Trois Rivieres Single Cask 2006, Martinique
70CL / 45.2% – £110.00
This is the closest you’ll come to a whisky drinker’s rum due to the sublime oak influence on the spirit. It is aged Agricole rum with a natural sweetness. Trois Rivières' single-cask bottlings are renowned for their excellent quality. This example was aged for an additional six years in a French limousin oak cask before being bottled in April 2016. Only 570 bottles were produced. thewhiskyexchange.com

Black Tot Last Consignment, Royal Naval Rum, Caribbean
70CL / 54.3% – £650.00
This rum deserves its place in any list of the world’s greatest spirits. Aromas of thick treacle, dark chocolate and super-ripe black fruits reveal a lively palate full of cassis, espresso and cigar tobacco. This incredible spirit is the actual rum – not a recreation - that the British Navy used to give sailors as their daily tot until the 300 year old tradition ended on July 31st 1970. A day to be forever remembered as Black Tot Day. The bottle contains rums up to 100 years old from former British colonies including Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad. thewhiskyexchange.com
