Founded in 1897 on the banks of the River Spey, Tamdhu has long been a guardian of sherry-cask maturation. Now part of the family-owned Ian Macleod Distillers portfolio, the Speyside distillery remains resolutely devoted to its craft – and its latest release, the 21-Year-Old Single Malt, is a testament to that dedication.
Fully matured in Oloroso sherry casks (naturally), the whisky embodies Tamdhu’s signature Spain-to-Speyside journey. Each cask is painstakingly crafted from oak grown in both Spain and North America, seasoned in the family’s own Jerez cooperages, and then filled with new-make spirit drawn from the distillery’s local spring water. The result is an entirely natural colour, an elegantly rich texture, and a flavour profile that speaks of patience and precision.

Bottled at 47.5% ABV and unchill-filtered, this limited annual release marks a “coming of age” for the brand. Its distinctive octagonal bottle is presented in a regal green case, the intricate Spanish-Moorish pattern paying homage to the sherry casks that define Tamdhu’s character. On the nose, sherried oak mingles with chocolate, sultanas, toffee and cinnamon, softening into hints of mocha and marzipan. The palate unfolds with festive notes of sherry-soaked raisins, candied orange and gentle oak, before easing into a long, luxurious finish of warm spice and syrupy fruit.
