Emma Naomi is back as Alice Mondrich for the third season of Bridgerton.

The actress talks about learning Flemish Dutch for Professor T, her badass Dr Martin's boots and why Baileys isn't a seasonal drink.

(We totally agree with her on the last point.)

Life

What upcoming project(s) are you most excited about?

Obviously, Part 2 of Bridgerton Season 3, which released on Thursday 13 June! There are also some other projects in the pipeline that I'm very excited about, I’m not allowed to say much about them right now.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment?

I struggle a little with the word ‘pride’, but I look back very fondly on the work I did as Lisa Donckers on Professor T as well as all the relationships I built there.

I came back able to speak conversational Flemish Dutch (it was mostly filmed in Belgium) and I am very pleased with that! I’ve never thought myself proficient in languages before.

If you could change one thing about your career, what would it be?

I wouldn’t change anything. I think the pace and the variety of things I’ve been able to do thus far has been perfect for me.

I would love to add more film, characters that push boundaries and more heightened text into the mix moving forward.

What do you hope to achieve that you haven’t yet?

I’m curious to see how far I can physically change with a character and remain authentic. I know I would feel a little out of my depth, but I have a feeling it would be totally freeing.

Outside of your family, who is / was your biggest inspiration?

Biggest? Oh man that’s difficult. I might have to give that one to Angelina Jolie for the earlier years.

And then the vocal coach Patsy Rodenburg – the way she speaks about the importance of theatre, the purpose of the actor and craft are the reason I applied for the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in the first place. I go back to her books and her podcast often.

Danny McGrath is another great teacher whose work I constantly go back to.

Tell us something nobody knows about you…

I’m obsessed with Baileys. Salted caramel especially. It is not a seasonal drink.

Style

What’s your favourite item of clothing – and what does it mean to you?

I have a trusty pair of vegan Dr Martin’s ankle boots. Practical, comfortable, reliable. Can work with most outfits and makes me feel 15% more badass.

Favourite accessory – watch / jewellery / etc – and why is it special to you?

I have a vintage pair of earrings from ‘Die Swaene’ in Belgium.

They are stunning and delicate; made with very unique Polynesian shell from 1980s Bali. I’ve not been able to find another pair like them anywhere.

What's your biggest style disaster?

As of yet, I don’t think I've had any of those. Fingers crossed.

Is there an item you threw away – or lost – that you really miss?

Countless accessories. I’m too scared to buy myself anything too expensive because I’m terrified that I’ll lose it.

I love earrings and necklaces. If possible, I’ll get copies of my favourites because I’m bound to misplace them. Unforgivable.

What’s next on your shopping list?

I would love a full-length denim coat. They’re gorgeous.

What would you buy if money was no object?

The new convertible Mini Cooper! In custom lilac or teal.
