Superman loses at roulette, Wonder Woman is imprisoned in a bird cage, a puppeteer controls Captain America – Western superheroes are submerged in Chinese culture in these stunning new artworks from Jacky Tsai. 

Tsai, designer of the famed Alexander McQueen skull, presents his second solo show exhibition The Harmonious Society at The Fine Art Society. The textured works are handcrafted using a 3000-year-old Chinese technique known as lacquer carving: in which a wood panel is engraved by hand and then coated in several layers of natural lacquer.

As you can see from the gallery above, the results are quite spectacular. We suggest you don your cape and fly on down.
