Watching in a dumbstruck state as a series of planes plummet towards the ground at 230mph might not sound that fun, but at the Red Bull Air Race, it's awe-inspiringly wonderful. The fastest motor-sport series in the world is back at Royal Ascot for its British leg for a second year this August, and the event will see some of the world's bravest and best pilots spin, soar and loop through a low-aerial track made up of 25 metre high air-filled pylons.
If it sounds mental, that's because it is, and the precision and skill of the pilots – and the size of their cojones – will have your jaw dropping. Just be glad you're not up there looping the loop in the plane with them…
Saturday 15th August is the opening and qualifying day of the Red Bull Air Race weekend, with an array of elite pilots looking to secure the Challenger’s Cup and qualify for a starting position at the Sunday 16th August Finale.
