Going once, going twice, going to the TateWard luxury auction.
In much the same way as placing your first bet might, going to an auction can seem daunting.
Will I be the only one present who stops at £50 every time? Will I get laughed at for holding my bidding sign up the wrong way around? (Probably.) Will I pull a Cary Grant in North by Northwest and enter a nonsensical bidding war?
All valid questions. But all questions that show the humble auction needs bringing into the 21st century. Cue TateWard.
The fairly new kid on the auction house block, TateWard will host its first luxury jewellery, watches and handbag auction on 10 December following a slew of successful art and wine sales. It's the brand's aim to refresh the way the auction market operates, meaning both experienced bidders and first-timers are welcome and encouraged to take part.
There’s nothing better than picking up a special piece for a fraction of the retail price
A 200 lot event, held in the Old Truman Brewery, with some products listed at £30? Thornhill wannabes look away, because this might be the best chance you have to attend an auction and not leave with an emergency appointment at your bank booked.
If you do fancy yourself a flutter, though, there are Graff, Bulgari, Chanel, Omega, Rolex and Cartier lots on offer at the auction too.
"There’s nothing better than picking up a special piece for a fraction of the retail price. I want to open up this experience to everyone and show East London that there’s nothing old-fashioned or intimidating about auctions,” says Francesca Garvey-Hughes, head of jewellery and watches at TateWard.
"We want to reflect this area of the City, its richness and its people in our auction, by doing something a bit different."
Going once, going twice, sold.
