When you're down the chippie, what drink do you order with your meal? Coke? Too sweet. Orange juice? Too fruity. No, we've always thought that the perfect accompaniment to our fish & chips supper is a bottle of bubbly, but whenever we ask the man who runs our local shop, he looks at us funnily.
Turns out Tom Sellers agrees with us, though: the chef, who runs Michelin-starred Restaurant Story, will open a chips and fizz pop-up in Covent Garden this summer. Sellers has partnered up with Krug to launch Krug & Chips, which’ll run from 8-12 July at Covent Garden's East Piazza, in British chipshop-themed dining pods.
The menu will feature playful dishes including ‘Fish in Chips’: a potato ravioli with fish in tartar sauce, Monkfish cheek curry with matchstick fries and Lobster claw wrapped in potato spaghetti with tartar sauce. Not quite the same as battered cod and chips, then.
As you might have guessed, you’ll wash down your chip-inspired dish with a glass of Krug. Best keep that pinky finger out as you eat chomp on those chips…
Krug & Chips takes place from 8 July to 12 July, in Covent Garden's East Piazza. Tickets cost £35 per person for a glass of Krug Grande Cuvée and a chip dish.
