More than three decades ago, its iconic 801 loudspeakers were introduced, fast becoming the industry standard for the top recording studios across the world. The original 800 Series Diamond was launched six years ago but has been reinvented and relaunched this autumn.
This time around, the speakers are more slender – the Turbine head is artfully constructed from a single piece of aluminium, and the front and sides form a continuous curve backed by a spine of solid aluminium. This is not just for looks; it helps with sound dispersion.
One element does remain the same: the diamond tweeter domes, which deliver the crispest treble. Add to these the new proprietary composite Continuum midrange cones, and you have a sonic performance that’s so impressive we can (almost) get away with using the phrase ‘sonic performance’. Rumours are they even make Sam Smith sound good.
