The name of the new soft-top draws inspiration from the original Silver Dawn, the first version to be made with a factory-built body. The famous and rare Rolls-Royce name was only ever applied to 28 very special drophead bodies between 1950 and 1954. While the new car echos the dolce vita mentality of a bygone age, it’s beefier and younger than the original – and with plenty more attitude. And that was reflected in the way the car was unveiled – not at a glitzy motor show, but via a multi-platform digital event. The teasers were put out on Twitter and Instagram, with the grand reveal coming via a live web feed.

The super-luxury four-seater convertible, which makes gentle nods to both the Ghost and Wraith, comes with a low deck that allows for a long, sleek elegance, and making it even more attractive when the hood’s down.

Inside, the Dawn is equipped with all the mod cons you’d expect, including a touchpad and Siri-like voice recognition service, plus heads-up display, and dynamic cruise control. Under the hood, there's a 6.6-litre V-12 that’ll give you 563 horsepower – enough to rag this beast from 0 to 62mph in 4.9 seconds. But with all that speed, the interior is still as quiet as the fixed-roof Wraith when the top's up. Apparently the car can zoom along "in total silence" in 22 seconds at up to 31mph. So the only sound you’ll hear is your cries of glee as you push down on the accelerator.

Team that with a plush Mandarin interior cocooned by a slick Midnight Sapphire bodywork, and you’ve got a car that screams sensuality and sophistication in equal measure. A bit like us, really.

Prices are expected to start from £250,000. For more info, visit rolls-roycemotorcars.com
