The coolest tech from CES 2016
For one week every year, Las Vegas fills up with futuristic gadgets and gizmos for its annual tech extravaganza, CES. Here's our picks from this year's show.

Virtual Reality
The much hyped world of VR is about to crash its way into 2016 with the arrival of the Oculus Rift, which people have been banging on about forever and is finally available to pre-order for £500. More expensive than a trip to the IMAX, then, and far more impressive too: experiences include climbing Mount Kilimanjaro while sitting on your sofa in your slippers, flipping upside down on a rollercoaster, and strutting down the catwalk at Russian fashion week. The tecchies couldn’t stop talking about Infinadeck, either, an omnidirectional treadmill that when paired with a VR headset allows you to walk or run around like a maniac while exploring imaginary and immersive new worlds.

Drones
The attack of the drones showed no sign of abating at this year’s tech fest, with everything from selfie snapping robots to self driving droids raging above visitors' heads. The most impressive was EHang, the world’s first human sized drone that flies itself with you strapped in it. The Ehang 184 drone measures around 1.4 metres high, and comes with a 12-inch touch screen in front of the seat, which you tap your destination into. You'll then sit pretty as the vehicle's computer calculates the quickest route to get you there. The safety side of all this is a bit blurry at the moment, but if EHang helps us get home from work faster, we’re willing to ignore those minor details.

Home tech
We never thought we’d say this, but in tech land, 2016 is the year of the fridge. The Samsung Smart Fridge comes with a vast 21.5-inch Gorilla Glass touch screen panel which brightens up automatically whenever its sensors detect you’re near, plus you’ll have access to recipes and an interior camera to check ingredients remotely. Just as clever is the LG Signature Refrigerator, boasting a panel on the door that allows you to peek inside without having to open it up, and a sensor that opens the door when you walk past. If you thought fridges were cool enough already, there's the LG rollable, an 18-inch screen that can be bent, flexed and even rolled up as it plays live video. A phone boasting a screen that can't be smashed to smithereens every time you drop it? It's coming. Thank god.
