Six British boxers ready to take on the world

Boxing is the toughest sport in the world – and arguably the most thrilling. And after several long months of waiting, fighters are returning to the ring.

Good. There are only so many Netflix shows or games of blackjack online at Mansion Group we can play, so boxing’s return has come at a perfect time.

It’s at a time when British fighters are thriving too, with Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury sitting at the top of the heavyweight division, alongside numerous other top British fighters in other weight divisions, including Chris Eubank Jr and Dillian Whyte. 

There’s more to come from the Great British boxing scene this year, though. Eddie Hearn's Fight Camp has proved a major success and huge events lie on the horizon. 

With that in mind, we thought we’d give you the lowdown on some of Britain’s best prospects.

Let's get ready to rumble...

Isaac Chamberlain 

A combination of boxing politics and rotten luck will have kept Chamberlain out of the ring for two years by the time he returns on Saturday night. Still only 26, the charismatic Londoner has time and an abundance of talent on his side as he attempts to conquer the cruiserweight division. His sole defeat came against London rival Lawrence Okolie in a fight that headlined the O2 Arena; a defeat Chamberlain will doubtless look to avenge in the coming years. His is a remarkable story, one that still has many chapters yet to run.   

Joshua Buatsi

Big things are expected from Joshua Buatsi, who has all the ingredients to become a star of British sport. The light heavyweight has some impressive wins on his CV already, including a memorable victory over Renold Quinlan. Buatsi is expected to become a household name in the coming years, with a big title fight on the horizon. He’s also a likeable character too, with the attitude needed to get to the very top. One to keep an eye on.

John Docherty

Scottish boxing fans are getting incredibly excited about John Docherty, and it’s easy to see why. The man from Montrose has been making a real name for himself in the super middleweight division, winning all nine of his professional fights so far with the memorable first-round knockout of Jordan Latimer in 2018 being a particular highlight. Stopping Pablo Mendoza inside a round was yet another impressive performance, as the Scot looks to reach the very top. Judging by what we’ve seen so far, he’s capable.

Josh Kelly

A former Team GB member, Sunderland’s Josh Kelly is a welterweight with the skills and know-how to send shockwaves through the division. With ten wins out of 11 (plus one draw) since his professional debut, Kelly has a maturity well beyond his years and is expected to add to his Commonwealth and WBA International titles in the near future. His Hollywood looks won't hurt his box office appeal, either. 

Daniel Dubois

British heavyweight boxing is in excellent shape already, but there’s a new kid on the block desperate to be mentioned in the same breath as Fury and Joshua. Daniel Dubois, a relatively shy and quiet man, is a 21-year-old with bags of potential and the big-punching power needed to disrupt the division. With the help of Frank Warren, Dubois’ progress has been remarkable already, but he’s expected to shine further in 2020. With 13 knockouts to his name, Daniel Dubios is well worth watching. Yes, he lost to Joe Joyce, but there's plenty of time for the young man to bounce back.

Zach Parker

Super middleweight Zach Parker is the number one contender with the WBO and, after a hard-fought win over Rohan Murdock in the eleventh round in Manchester, the 25-year-old is expected to face tougher tests in the months ahead. He’s certainly capable of reigning supreme, too. Let’s see if Parker has the drive to succeed.
