"Nobody knows that I’m a bit quirky," Julia Rizik tells us. "I’m pretty nerdy and for some reason, nobody ever expects that from me."
Well, as everyone knows, the quirky people are the best – and Rizik's latest EP 'Self Destructive' certainly demonstrates her formidable talent.
She also has great musical taste: Motown? Yes please.
Stick on some Marvin Gaye and set up Dungeons and Dragons – we have a cracking Friday night ahead of us.
Life
What upcoming project(s) are you most excited about?
I’m most excited about my new EP coming out.
It’s called “Self Destructive,” and it tells the story of my life over the last two years.
It’s super personal, which makes this whole experience extremely emotional...in a good way!
What is your proudest professional accomplishment?
My proudest professional accomplishment was writing this whole EP by myself through quarantine.
It really pushed me and helped me grow as an artist and songwriter.
If you could change one thing about your career, what would it be?
Hmm, I don’t think there’s anything I would change.
I feel so grateful for all of it; the ups, the downs and everything in between.
I learn something new about my art every day
What do you hope to achieve that you haven’t yet?
My dream is to play at Coachella; I pray for that.
I just want to keep making music and connecting with others through that. I learn something new about my art every day.
Outside of your family, who is/was your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration is probably the singers/songwriters era of Motown music. It’s part of the reason I fell so in love with music and songwriting.
The talent they possess is unbelievable and it inspires me so much!
Tell us something nobody knows about you…
Nobody knows that I’m a bit quirky.
I’m pretty nerdy and for some reason, nobody ever expects that from me.
Sometimes I’m outside of my body cringing at my quirky-ness.
Style
What’s your favourite item of clothing – and what does it mean to you?
My favourite item of clothing is probably my baggy, grey sweatpants. I love being comfy :)
Favourite accessory – watch/jewellery/etc. – and why is it special to you?
Hmm, my favourite accessory is probably this pretty cross necklace my mom got me matching hers.
It just reminds me of how close she and I are.
What items do you take on holiday and why?
LOL. I pack everything with me on holiday. You never know what you’re going to need!
I want to buy a meaningful charm necklace
Is there an item you threw away – or lost – that you really miss?
I threw away an old journal recently by accident and I totally regret that. It was such an airhead moment!
What’s next on your shopping list?
I want to buy a meaningful charm necklace for the EO :) Designing it currently.
What would you buy if money was no object?
If money were no object, I would buy my dream house and build a studio in it!
