The coolest design-led gym equipment
Plastic dumbbells and soggy rubber exercise mats won't cut it anymore. Today's gym equipment is raising the bar, and the design-led tools of the trade look almost as good as you will, after you've finished with them…

The concept
If your love for the gym spurs you to transform your own home into a muscle-making shrine, Atelier Biagetti's gym-inspired furniture is for you. The Italian designer's Body Building collection brilliantly awards humble gym equipment lofty design status. It's not just for looks, either – the leather and fur ball seats are ergonomically designed to improve posture and wellness, and there's a yoga mat version of the carpet. The rest is a playful, stylish nod to today's obsession with keeping fit, and looking good at the same time.

The bike
Yes, it's an expensive piece of kit, but at £7.5k, it's still the cheapest Lamborghini you'll ever be able to get your hands on. The Ciclotte limited edition exercise bike mirrors all the slick, streamlined looks of a Lamborghini supercar, with a carbon-steel red frame and bull symbol that packs a punch on looks. Performance is paramount, too: it's the only version to use a bespoke electromagnetic resistance system, and has been designed to reproduce the performance of on-road, high-intensity cycling. Without the Great British elements raining on your parade, either.

The dumbbells
German company Hock Design makes high-end fitness equipment that's really, really, ridiculously good-looking. With a focus on clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic, most of it would look just as cosy in a design museum as it would in your home gym. Like these dumbbells, most of its products are developed locally and crafted from natural products, using everything from polished, oiled woods to non-reactive metals. They've also been meticulously tested, to ensure that form, function and durability work in harmony. Who said you can't have brains and brawn? Not us. Or Arnie, actually.
