Shazad Latif started his career on Spooks and attained cult classic status for his role as Clem Fandango on Toast of London. "Yes, I can hear you Clem Fandango!"
The role led to a scene opposite Larry David in Toast of Tinseltown, "an achievement I’m very proud of."
The actor recently took on the biggest role of his career as Captain Nemo in Amazon Prime's Nautilus, a lavish adaptation of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.
His biggest inspiration? None other than the late, great Roger Lloyd-Pack, the father of a friend and Trigger from Only Fools and Horses.
Life
What upcoming project(s) are you most excited about?
There is a project coming up but I still can't talk about it just yet. But it is a very, very exciting one.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment?
Doing a scene with Larry David in Toast of Tinseltown was an achievement I’m very proud of, I can die happy with that one.
If you could change one thing about your career, what would it be?
Could’ve stretched and gone to the gym more, earlier in my career.
What do you hope to achieve that you haven’t yet?
The ability to be less stressed.
Outside of your family, who is / was your biggest inspiration?
My friend's dad Roger Lloyd Pack was an inspiration to me when I was younger. He was Trigger from Only Fools and Horses and a stage actor.
He introduced me to a lot of things I wouldn’t have known and helped me a lot.
Tell us something nobody knows about you…
I have a tattoo of a panda on my foot.
Style
What’s your favourite item of clothing – and what does it mean to you?
I have a movie merch jacket from ‘Big Trouble in Little China’, it’s a varsity style baseball jacket. Mustard colour, the character Wang wears it in the movie. It's my fav.
Favourite accessory – watch / jewellery / etc – and why is it special to you?
I have a gold chain I like to wear. Goes nice with my brown skin. Makes me feel sexy.
What items do you take on holiday and why?
A wet bag for wet clothes on the beach. Nothing else gets wet. A good bucket hat.
Is there an item you threw away – or lost – that you really miss?
I lost a shawl, like a mountainous Pakistani shawl. White with a pattern on it. Was my favourite thing.
What would you buy if money was no object?
A five a side football pitch and a pickleball court on a nice, modest size piece of land next to a natural cold swimming pool. A lifetime supply of my favourite curry.
