Mecia Simson is best known for playing elven sorceress Francesca Findabair in The Witcher but the actress is also fascinated by the magic of the mind.
"I love learning about psychology and philosophy," says Simson.
"I try to buy fiction when I go to the bookshop but somehow I always end up leaving with books about humans and the universe."
Humans and the universe – you don't get much more magic than that.
Life
What upcoming project(s) are you most excited about?
There's one project in particular that I can’t wait to get my hands on, but for now I have to keep it quiet.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment?
Most definitely booking The Witcher, it was so surreal. I’d spent years of working on myself as an actor so it was a real proud moment when I found out I got the part.
If you could change one thing about your career, what would it be?
I would work more, I love being on set and being surrounded in the creative environment.
When I have time off in-between filming I’m such a fidget and can’t wait to get back on set again.
What do you hope to achieve that you haven’t yet?
I would love to lead my own film. Preferably something by A24 and something with lots of action and lots of stunts.
Outside of your family, who is / was your biggest inspiration?
In terms of acting, Meryl Streep is at the top of my list.
The way she shape shifts through different roles is so inspiring, she’s the type of actor I aspire to be.
Tell us something nobody knows about you...
I love learning about psychology and philosophy. I have so many amazing books that I like to get lost in.
I try to buy fiction when I go to the bookshop but somehow I always end up leaving with books about humans and the universe.
Style
What’s your favourite item of clothing – and what does it mean to you?
My Hugo Boss trench coat, it was a congratulations present I bought for myself after booking my first season on The Witcher.
Favourite accessory – watch / jewellery / etc – and why is it special to you?
It has to be my Dumortierite Quartz necklace, I wear it all the time.
I'm obsessed with crystals, I believe they hold energies that you can work with as a support when doing inner work and this one helped me through a lot.
What's your biggest style disaster?
Most things between the ages of 15 - 18. I’ve seen some questionable outfits during that time which should never be spoken about.
Is there an item you threw away – or lost – that you really miss?
Yes, I had a pair of trousers with a really cool black and white pattern going up the legs, I wore them so much that they started to decay so I had to let them go. I’ve never seen a pair like them since :(
What’s next on your shopping list?
I’m off to a festival in a few days so I’m looking for a cool pair of coloured cowboy boots with a metallic finish.
What would you buy if money was no object?
A private island somewhere in the Indian Ocean with the worlds best chefs cooking me dinner every night.
