The iconic British lifestyle brand has launched a brand new line for both men and women this season, and it’s a serious celebration of the preppy sportswear look. For its inaugural ‘51 collection, Gloverall has delved into its archive and taken inspiration from the discovery of never-seen-before archive sporting images chronicling the early days of the British Grand Prix.
Evocative of an era when style, talent and celebrity were intertwined, the images from the 1950’s capture moments both on and off the race-track featuring motor-racing man of the day, Tony Brooks. Photographed wearing Goverall‘s iconic Monty duffle coat, Brooks is captured alongside racing legends Sterling Moss and Mike Hawthorn while racing at the Monaco Grand Prix in 1957.
Inspired by the past, the ’51 Collection delivers a modernist reinterpretation of archive-inspired moments that mean it’s bang up to date despite its retro feel. Our favourite item is the Monty duffle coat – its classic boiled wool style has been given a modern twist featuring appliqué racing-inspired motifs and pins.

Other staple items include all-weather raincoats, sporty mid-length car coats, a tailored sports blazer, a quilted rally jacket, and the race-inspired Paddock jacket. The collection also embraces British fabrics: from tweeds to waxed and cottons, to corduroys and wools. Roll on that winter chill…
