The affordable one: Breitling Navitimer 806
The favoured watch for pilots, the legendary Breitling Navitimer 806 is distinguished by its slick steel case and its black dial with a red seconds hands, silver chronograph counters and applied hour-markers or numerals. It also appeared in Thunderball: French NATO pilot François Derval wears it before he's knocked off by an evil henchman. Adrian says: "The Breitling Navitimer 806 is becoming increasingly collectable. It's more accessible that the earliest models but with a distinctive vintage feel, having the original ‘Twin Tail’ Breitling logo."

The investment: Jaeger-LeCoultre
The first ever round-cased ceramic watch by Jaeger-LeCoultre, this limited edition number comes with a patented date display, while its open caseback reveals the complex movement within. "Jaeger-LeCoultre’s first round ceramic case hoses an exceptional GMT tourbillon. The GMT hand is designed to jump from the five to the seven o’clock positions so as not to obscure the view of the tourbillon." Lot 165.

The blowout: Rolex Oyster chronograph
The daddy of the watch world, this Rolex Oyster chronograph features a silvered dial with alternating gilt Arabic numeral and arrowhead hour markers, and is fitted to a brown crocodile strap. Straight-up sophistication for your wrist. "Rolex Oyster chronographs from the 1940s always generate excitement. This one epitomises elegant sporting pursuits rather than rugged adventure. A very wearable vintage piece."
