Here at Square Mile we’re massive fans of Coworth Park, one of the loveliest hotels in the country. It’s a place of lakes and meadows, swans and wildflowers. In Adam Smith’s Woven it boasts an absolute killer of a restaurant that richly deserves its Michelin star.
In the summer months, an even more spectacular experience can be enjoyed. Enter Tide, an alfresco dining concept situated on the upper terrace of the main house. Essentially, Smith’s magnificent food is transported to the great outdoors – and outdoors don’t get much greater than Coworth Park. (Worth noting, winter at Coworth isn't too shabby either.)
We were lucky enough to attend the launch event; I can best describe the evening as finding yourself at the end of a movie when everything’s turned out OK. (Feeling like you’re in a movie is a common occurrence at Coworth Park.) A long wooden table in the midst of the meadows, a band nearby, the sun gradually vanishing over the treeline, and plates of delicious food materialising every few minutes: yeah, I’ve had worse Fridays.

Like the hotel itself, Tide is focused on showcasing the best of British. The menu puts British produce centre stage – from Cornish fish to Kentish strawberries and handpicked herbs grown in Coworth Park’s own kitchen garden. Highlights include grilled scallops with buttermilk and hot sauce; native lobster paccheri finished with black truffle and aged parmesan; and a ‘Panzanella’ of Isle of Wight tomatoes served with grilled prawns. For dessert, try the classic summer pudding with elderflower cream.
As for the booze, Tide is partnered with Sussex-based sparkling wine house Rathfinny for that perfect summer serve. Established in 2010 by husband-and-wife team Mark and Sarah Driver, Rathfinny produces some of the finest English sparkling wine on the market – the rosé we sampled was an absolute delight.
“Tide is all about capturing a moment in time, the height of the British summer,” says Smith of the restaurant. “It’s a chance to celebrate the season’s finest ingredients, cooked simply and enjoyed in one of the most beautiful spots on the estate.”
Tide runs until the end of August. We highly recommend you take a dip.
