Many actors aren't the biggest fans of interviews and frankly we don't blame them.

Answering the same questions over and over; ever wary of sharing spoilers or the details of their latest romance. Yeah, we'd get tired too.

Yet Herman Tømmeraas has turned interviews into a form of therapy. And the only interviewer he needs is himself.

"I am often interviewing myself when I feel sad," says Tømmeraas. "Somehow, that always helps me reflect over how I am feeling and how far I have come."

As one of the stars of Neflix's hugely popular show Ragnarok, Tømmeraas has come a hell of a long way – and will have plenty of more interviews in his future. (Hopefully happy ones.)

Life

What upcoming project(s) are you most excited about?

I’ve really enjoyed the character development in my role as Fjor in Ragnarok. It is incredible to see the growth in his character and see his story develop in season 3.

I’m also doing ADR work for two new movies that are coming out 2023.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment?

I have always wanted to be part of a project that helps others. Either making them laugh when they feel sad, making them feel heard when they feel alone, or feel seen when they feel invisible.

Back when I was 17, I was given that chance when I was cast in a show called SKAM. SKAM was a Norwegian teenage/coming of age drama that turned into something very special. I think it's really cool that people are still watching it to this day and still are influenced by the messages of the show.

If you could change one thing about your career, what would it be?

If I could rewind time, I would have started studying different accents and languages much earlier in my career.

I am currently working with voice and dialect coaches abroad and it’s an incredible experience, however I just wish I started earlier as it’s so valuable as part of the journey to finding a character’s voice and dialect for a performance.

What do you hope to achieve that you haven’t yet?

I’ve always wanted to be part of a project where I’m the only one that can speak Norwegian. Sounds kind of weird, I know. It would just be fun to feel like a “foreigner” in a production.

Outside of your family, who is / was your biggest inspiration?

Leonardo DiCaprio.First of all, he is a fantastic actor who’s proven time and time again that he has the abilities to portray all kinds of characters. But he also chooses to use his large platform for a good cause.

His focus on the environment and climate change has helped spread awareness all over the globe which are topics that are really important to me.

Tell us something nobody knows about you…

I am often interviewing myself when I feel sad. Somehow, that always helps me reflect over how I am feeling and how far I have come.

Style

What’s your favourite item of clothing – and what does it mean to you?

I've really found an interest in vintage shirts. Oversized and loose, that looks worn. I just generally like the feel fit when it doesn't fit me perfectly.

Vintage in general is great. I have a tendency to get attached to objects, and with vintage clothes, it just feels like I'm extending the life of something old, and filling it up with new memories and stories.

Favourite accessory – watch / jewellery / etc – and why is it special to you?

My favourite accessory would have to be my rings! I’ve collected some really cool ones over the years that I have with so many memories attached to.

What items do you take on holiday and why?

When I’m on a holiday, sunglasses, perfume, and AirPods are probably my most essential items. You always need to look and smell fresh and most of all good tunes when you just want to chill.

Is there an item you threw away – or lost – that you really miss?

I lost my favourite shirt when I went to Copenhagen Fashion Week. I have no idea where it is. It bugs me even till today that I lost it!

What’s next on your shopping list?

I'm actually thinking about buying myself some new gloves. Norway is getting colder by the minute, so I need to sort this ASAP.

What would you buy if money was no object?

I would love to treat my parents to a summer villa in Spain. I know they've always dreamt about it. They used to take my brother and I on family vacations for a month once a year. As a family, we always used to talk about how perfect it would be to have our own place there.
