Event Details
December is upon us, drinking has become a nightly occurrence, Mariah Carey has made her annual reappearance in the chart's top 40 singles and, for all intents and purposes, Christmas is well and truly underway.
But after the merry season comes the bleak black hole that January fast becomes after the searing New Year's Eve hangover wears off, and you're forcibly chained back at your desk.
Blue Monday has caused many a stir for years now, particularly as the conversation around mental health has opened up in the media and throughout offices across the world. As a result, many events and experiences have been tested to encourage City workers and beyond to come together and kick the blues.
This year, ultra-low alcohol spirit brand Atopia is taking on the supposed most depressing day of the year by encouraging London to laugh. Free for all, Atopia’s Laughter Sessions will offer laughing yoga, mindful comedy acts, live art and a place to escape the humdrum for an exceptional drink.
Who knew a downward dog could be so funny?
With only 0.5% ABV, Atopia has been dubbed the Dry January tipple (it contains the same amount of alcohol as an overripe pineapple or bottle of kombucha).
Attendees will be encouraged to try either Atopia's non-alcoholic tonic mix or a full-blown cocktail before mindful activities kick-off.
Held by laughing yoga extraordinaire Lotte Mikkelsen, laughter meditation will provoke the odd chuckle by simulating laughter, followed by curated stretching and breathing exercises scientifically proven to bring happiness. Who knew a downward dog could be so funny?
The lineup of comedians is also impressive from Sanderson Jones, known for his congregations of self-worship, Elf Lyons, Helen Duff, and Radio 4 and 5Live regular Chris Stokes.
Get your happy face on – or don't because it'll be gotten on for you – and get down to Benk + Bo next month to kick the January blues straight up the you-know-what. Ha ha.
