GOING UP A GEAR: For more than 40 years, Caterham has been building cars that essentially look identical. Yes, they’ve become slowly, er, faster, but they still look like you could have knocked them up in your driveway with a Meccano spanner. Not any more: enter the AeroSeven Concept.

CONTROL FREAK: In the cockpit, the F1-style steering wheel allows you to control everything from the throttle mapping to a pit-lane limiter. And for track day heroes, there’s a widescreen display to feed back on top speeds, gear changes, temperatures and the number of times your passengers have wet themselves.

WINNING FORMULA: Using experience garnered from its F1 team, Caterham will be introducing features such as launch control and inboard pushrods. At only 600kg, the AeroSeven weighs just a few kilos more than its F1 equivalent. The car is expected to hit the road in late 2014. As they’ll all be made by hand, get your name on the list now.
