There are few silhouettes in motoring as arresting as the Aston Martin DB4 GT – and fewer still with such impeccable provenance as this one.
Finished in its original Sea Green with Connolly VM3253 Green hides, this 1960 example embodies both the grace and grit that defined the golden age of British grand touring – and is now for sale with Nicholas Mee.
Conceived as the racing derivative of the DB4, the GT took the marque’s elegant touring coupe and sharpened it for the circuit: a shortened wheelbase, lightweight aluminium panels, and a high-output straight-six tuned by Tadek Marek.
Its debut at Silverstone in 1959, with Sir Stirling Moss at the wheel, sealed its place in motorsport legend.
One of just 75 cars ever built, this DB4 GT began life in North Wales before passing through the hands of several noted collectors and racers – including Simon Phillips, who competed at Le Mans, and Hubert Fabri, whose stewardship saw the car return to Goodwood and Spa for historic competition.
Among its distinguished drivers are Sir Stirling Moss, Sir Jack Brabham, and Aston Martin works racer Darren Turner – a roll call that reads like an index of post-war racing royalty.
After decades on the circuit, the car underwent a body-off restoration of the highest calibre in 2015, orchestrated by Bodylines, Spray-Tec, and other leading UK specialists. The brief was simple: achieve a “100-point” concours standard, returning every surface and mechanical component to as-delivered perfection.
The result is a DB4 GT that balances authenticity with immaculate presentation – a machine ready for both the concours lawn and the open road.
Having covered a modest 3,600 miles since completion, it remains a jewel of the Aston Martin canon, documented in Palawan Press’s The Aston Martin DB4 GT and awarded the Duke of Marlborough Trophy at Salon Privé 2020.
It’s hard to overstate what’s on offer here: a concours-winning DB4 GT, raced by legends, restored without compromise, and finished in perhaps the most quintessential Aston Martin colourway ever mixed.
It represents not just a pinnacle for this British marque but a seminal chapter of British motoring history.
