Kaz James is definitely one of those people who have used lockdown has an opportunity to thrive.

"I have made so much new music during the lockdown," the DJ says. "I now just want to get it out."

It starts June 12 with the release of new track 'Stronger' (presumably he's been hitting the weights as well).

There's still time for James to hone his guitar skills – but a visit from Jimi Hendrix may be a step too far.

Then again, the way that 2020's going, could we rule anything out? We'll take 'October' for the undead walking the Earth.

Life

What upcoming project(s) are you most excited about?

I'm just excited to get back to DJing and performing this summer. I have made so much new music during the lockdown. I now just want to get it out.

My new single is out soon called 'Stronger' which features my good friend Ali love on vocals this is a super cool project that I’m happy that we've finally got it out.

What is your proudest professional accomplishment?

To be honest I don’t really think like that. I’m going to think about that when I retire.

If you could change one thing about your career, what would it be?

I wouldn’t change anything. I have made so many mistakes but from those mistakes I have learned a lot. Not only in music but in life.

What do you hope to achieve that you haven’t yet?

Im setting my own record label up at the moment, which I have never done before. I'm super excited to release some amazing music. From some dope artists and some of my own.

Outside of your family, who is / was your biggest inspiration?

There were so many DJs that really inspired me growing up. I got to hang out with a lot of these people and spent hours and days even weeks just listening to music.

That really helped me shape my understanding of music and what I was really into. Especially when people are high they really show you records that really touch them.

Records that really mean a lot to them and why.

Tell us something nobody knows about you…

I played trumpet for many years.

My step father was a jazz musician and forced me to play the trumpet which at the time I hated.

But it definitely paid off when it came to understanding how to make music.

Lockdown

How are you finding lockdown?

It's been challenging at times especially at the start. But it's been nice to reset.

I have actually really enjoyed it, if I’m being honest. A lot of exercise and normal sleep.

Best thing about lockdown?

Being able to do things you never have time to do.

Worst thing about lockdown?

Watching the news and seeing the pain and suffering people are going through caused by this pandemic.

Top tip for surviving lockdown?

Good red wine. Wash your hands and stay home.

If you could be locked down with one person, alive or dead, who would it be?

Jimi Hendrix because I suck at guitar and would love to be taught by the best.

What are you most looking forward to doing once lockdown is over?

I can’t wait to be able to perform again and play all the new music I’ve made.
