That's why when Hermès set out to create a summer version of its classic Terre d'Hermès fragrance, there was no room for error. Luckily, the storied Jean-Claude Ellena, who's been head perfumer for Hermès since 2004, didn't disappoint, creating a reinterpretation of the classic, which reinvigorates the scent without trying to reinvent the wheel.
Ellena describes the scent as "Feeling the earth, lying on the ground, gazing at the sky" which, loosely translated, means it evokes nature and the outdoors, with a tang of orange zest that adds energy and leaves you smelling as fresh as you feel when the sun's beaming and the water's beckoning.
Terre d'Hermès Eau Très Fraîche is available nationwide from 26 May; hermes.com
