The Original

Named from a line in Shakespeare’s The Tempest, the first Fifty Fathoms was launched in 1953 to give serious divers a timepiece designed specifically for the challenging marine environment. With a double-sealed crown, rotating bezel and an ingenious solution for sealing the case, the ‘Fifty’ was a future legend born of passion and pure functionality.

The Bathyscaphe

Based on a late 1950s variant of the Fifty Fathoms, the 2013 Bathyscaphe (£8,330) revisits its ancestor’s formula of diving watch function with everyday form. Using an in-house movement with a five-day power reserve, it features a ceramic bezel that’s virtually indestructible.
