Routine is an important part of lockdown life.
Maverick Sabre knows this.
"I needed to force myself into one," he says of the R-word, "or I would have been staring at the walls all day doing f**k all."
Naturally, that routine includes showering – during which Sabre will blast "a bit of techno or trance."
What a great way to shake off the morning cobwebs (techo) or relax yourself for the day to come (the one that isn't techno).
Be Maverick.
Life
What upcoming project(s) are you most excited about?
Kojaque (Irish rapper) is bringing out his album soon which I’m looking forward to hearing.
Producer/songwriter New Machine is bringing out his first album as well which I’ve heard moments from and it sounds amazing.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment?
Bringing my Dad out in Brixton at one of my London shows.
We got to perform a song of mine ‘Glory’ together. He’s featured on the end. Memories like that mean the most to me.
If you could change one thing about your career, what would it be?
I wouldn’t change anything. I don’t like the idea of regrets, I believe everything happens for a reason the way it is meant to.
What do you hope to achieve that you haven’t yet?
Throw a couple Grammys at me and I’ll appreciate them…
I want to start making more music for cinema, producing for other people more, touring more regions of the world where I haven’t been before…and directing videos.
Outside of your family, who is / was your biggest inspiration?
Life. My biggest inspiration apart from people around me and who I listen to or whatever, is the world.
The everyday stories and situations we all experience or see around us is the best inspiration you can draw from.
Tell us something nobody knows about you…
I love listening to a bit of techno or trance when I’m in the shower.
Lockdown
How are you finding lockdown?
Grand…I enjoy my own company, and spend a lot of time by myself or locked away in studios with no schedule or anything so lockdown feels a tiny bit like an extension of that.
Connections with people are vital though we all need a chat or some human interaction every now and then.
Best thing about lockdown?
Time to do things I’ve been putting off. And finish off music I have lying around not completed.
Worst thing about lockdown?
Not being around the energy of people you love. We’re built to have human contact and connections… so a long period of time without can definitely be difficult.
Top tip for surviving lockdown?
Routine. I’m pretty loose as it goes normally, but getting myself into a routine helped me out a lot…specially with exercise…
I needed to force myself into one or I would have been staring at the walls all day doing f**k all.
If you could be locked down with one person, alive or dead, who would it be?
Tupac. We’d have three albums done by the time it’s over.
What are you most looking forward to doing once lockdown is over?
The finest of pints of Guinness in my favourite pub The Auld Shillelagh.
I miss the pub I have to say….but everything in time.
