From Ronnie Scott's to The Roundhouse, Ally Pally to The Electric Ballroom, London has more than its fair share of iconic music venues. You can now add St Pancras International to that list.
Since 2012, St Pancras International has attracted world-class performers on its public pianos including Alicia Keys, Norah Jones, Rod Stewart, Jools Holland, Elton John, John Legend, Tom Odell, and James Arthur.
Pianos were first introduced here as part of the City of London Festival’s golden anniversary, and have become a mainstay of entertainment at the station ever since.
This summer, St Pancras International has added a new ‘St Pancras Piano’ in collaboration with renowned piano manufacturer, Kawai.
The Kawai K-500 upright piano now stands proudly in the heart of St Pancras International’s main Arcade, inviting performers of all abilities to pause, play, and express themselves.
More than just an instrument, it’s a symbol of the station’s ever-evolving cultural heartbeat – a place where music meets movement, and everyday travel is punctuated by spontaneous artistry.
The installation echoes the shared ethos of St Pancras and Kawai’s Instrumental to Life campaign: that music is a universal language — one that sparks memories, fosters connection, and welcomes participation from all, regardless of age or experience.
To celebrate the arrival of the new St Pancras Piano, world-class pianists Lara Melda and Karim Kamar, alongside Classic FM Rising Star Louis Philippson, gave impromptu performances in the station’s Arcade.
Peter Martin-Jones, Head of Marketing at London St Pancras Highspeed, said: “Our station pianos and the music they make have become the heart and soul of St Pancras International, creating countless magical moments for travellers and visitors alike.”
Tom Haydney, Marketing and Product Manager at Kawai UK, added: “It’s an honour for our K-500 upright to become the ‘St Pancras Piano’ – a beautiful instrument in a space where anyone can stop, play, or simply be moved by the music.”
In a station famed for turning the everyday commute into a stage for remarkable moments, the K-500 hits exactly the right note.
