Creativity and sleep. Two commodities that lockdown has brought to the forefront.
Sam Bird is making the most of both – and the DJ has a handy method to ensure he keeps busy during what might otherwise be empty days.
"Every night before I got to sleep, I type out at least eight tasks I’m going to complete," says Bird, "and make sure I tick them all off the next day."
Impressive discipline, especially as Bird is currently locked down with his girlfriend in Florida, and could be forgiven for taking life easy.
Next stop, the Top 40 – or higher...
Life
What upcoming project(s) are you most excited about?
After the release of my single, everything had been put in place this summer for my ‘Run To You’ DJ tour.
Obviously with the uncertainty about the situation at the moment we don’t know when that will be, but hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment?
Signing with Warner Music UK - signing with a major was a dream come true.
If you could change one thing about your career, what would it be?
The travel, I wish I had a transporter.
What do you hope to achieve that you haven’t yet?
A Top 40 UK single (fingers crossed Run To You will do it)!
Outside of your family, who is / was your biggest inspiration?
Growing up my biggest inspiration was Eminem, he didn’t care what people thought, he just did what he loved and let the music do the talking.
Tell us something nobody knows about you…
Calvin Harris once gave me some of his yoghurt in an airport.
Lockdown
How are you finding lockdown?
I’m currently stuck in Florida with my girlfriend, she has a lovely house by the beach here.
Weather's nice, so I’m lucky. I’ve been BBQing every night in the patio and listening to tunes.
Best thing about lockdown?
Being able to be creative anytime you want and to sleep whenever.
Worst thing about lockdown?
Missing friends and family.
Top tip for surviving lockdown?
Every night before I got to sleep, I type out at least eight tasks I’m going to complete and make sure I tick them all off the next day.
If you could be locked down with one person, alive or dead, who would it be?
David Blaine. Always wondered how he did his magic and stunts, enough time with him I’m sure he’d spill.
What are you most looking forward to doing once lockdown is over?
Just going to a nice restaurant to be honest. I’m not a bad cook, but I can’t do sushi and I miss it.
