Joe Sugg is not a man prone to idleness.

He and his partner Dianne Buswell came runner-up on Strictly Come Dancing. (Their tour has been rescheduled for 2021 – you can secure tickets here.)

He won The Great Stand Up to Cancer Bake Off.

He's played the West End in Waitress.

He's written a graphic novel – Username:Evie – which will soon be adapted to TV.

Lockdown can't be easy for someone so constantly busy – but as Sugg notes, "there is going to be a time we can all get back to our normal lives."

The beer gardens will be waiting when we do...

Life

What upcoming project(s) are you most excited about?

Unfortunately like a lot of people at the moment a lot of the projects I had in the pipeline for this year have been pushed back.

But before we went into Lockdown I was due to go on a national tour with my girlfriend putting on a variety show of comedy, dance and music. That has now been postponed to next year now.

I also had another acting job lined up which I am really excited about which has also been postponed too.

There’s a graphic novel I brought out a few years ago now (Username:Evie) which is also currently in development for television too, which is super exciting

What is your proudest professional accomplishment?

I would say that this would be every time I have diversified in my career path.

E.g. releasing my first Graphic novels or transitioning to television with Strictly or getting a role in the West End. It’s really close tie up between them all to be honest.

I’d like to think that my proudest accomplishment is still yet to come (fingers crossed).

If you could change one thing about your career, what would it be?

This is tricky. I was going to say I wish I knew more about building a brand and a business and stayed more focused on that from the start BUT I think that would have actually taken away from what I had naturally and organically built through the love of what I do.

It started as a hobby and I like to maintain that attitude to my work even today.

What do you hope to achieve that you haven’t yet?

I hope to create or build something that goes beyond just my name. I’m really interested in production and how things are created and creating formats so I would love to create a show or format that becomes way bigger than what I have made so far.

Outside of your family, who is / was your biggest inspiration?

No one really springs to mind. I’ve been inspired by so many different people all throughout my career. I’ve always tried to never compare what I’m doing to other people and just go with the flow and do my own thing.

Tell us something nobody knows about you…

That’s one of the hardest questions for people who work in social media as most of the stuff about me that I’m comfortable to share with an audience is already out there on my YouTube channels from over the years.

I would say that I have a superior knowledge of 1980s music despite being born in 1991. All these Zoom quizzes have solidified this for me haha.

Lockdown

How are you finding lockdown?

I’m finding it really unusual like most of the country but fortunately I can still work from home and so I’m able to keep myself super busy and creative.

Best thing about lockdown?

The best thing is that it’s helped me come up with some good creative ideas. I think some of my best ideas in the past have come from my mind wandering whilst bored and trying to keep myself entertained.

Also another great thing to come out of all this is that I’ve discovered I now LOVE gardening and home improvement. Or is that just old age coming on?

Worst thing about lockdown?

Trips to the supermarket. I despise food shopping anyway so trips to the supermarket just stress me out and I always forget something on the shopping list and it just never ends well.

Top tip for surviving lockdown?

Keep yourself busy and keep reminding yourself that we’re all in the same boat. We’re all experiencing the same things as you are.

Make the most of getting outside and exercising when you can as that does help massively.

And keep reminding yourself that there is going to be a time we can all get back to our normal lives and see loved ones again in person.

What are you most looking forward to doing once lockdown is over?

I’m most looking forward to catching up with friends and family and hopefully making up for lost time in the beer gardens and having a bit more freedom.
