Mercedes perfects the four-wheel drive with the CLA 45 AMG 4MATIC

For starters, Mercedes-Benz has perfected a four-wheel drive system that makes all that lovely power more controllable, so oversteer no longer comes as standard. Also, with the likes of the A-class and this, the CLA 45 AMG 4MATIC, you can get your hands on an AMG in the 'entry level' bracket. Don't expect any compromise, though. The figures speak for themselves: 62mph is hit in 4.6 seconds when you engage launch control, and its turbocharged 2.0-litre engine will see you happily on to 155mph. Not that it's advised on the North Circular, but it's nice to know you could should the mood take you.

Say the initials AMG to most of the motoring-minded and they will conjure up images of pumped-up tail-happy saloons or supercars that can embarrass a Ferrari in a straight line. But times are changing.
