This year’s winner of the Square Mile Photo Prize is Elena Chaykina for her beautiful Reflections series. Trying to capture original photographs of Canary Wharf is no mean feat. Silver
St Paul’s is impressive from any angle, but this drone shot by Dmitrijs and Far Foster is undeniably epic. The ant-like people on the street provide perspective on the cathedral and its famous dome, the second largest in the world after St Peter’s in Rome.
Bronze
The divisive Walkie Talkie has always picked up headlines – from the unusual shape to its ability to melt Jaguars from 500ft. Lisa Sharman’s shot of 20 Fenchurch Street (as it’s technically known) emphasises the building’s curves by framing them between the two buildings in the foreground – which themselves follow the arc of the street.
Highly Commended
Sarah Hurcum’s series of photos around Tooley Street and More London show a unique eye. Instead of looking at the obvious landmarks she’s concentrated on glass reflections. The photos successfully capture both sides of the City: historic architecture reflected in the windows of more modern buildings.
Best on a Mobile Phone
Jennika Argent won our Mobile Phone Prize, capturing another great reflection shot – of the Gherkin – on her Google Pixel 2.
