The greatest gift may well be love, but no one ever complained about receiving a nice bottle of Scotch. Or diamond jewellery. Or, indeed, one of the best compact cameras ever created.
We've compiled our ultimate luxury wish list, so you don't have to. (But if you're asking, we'd love the Leica, thanks.)

Dendritic Agate Cufflinks
The fern-like markings you see in these GG Jewels agate and vermeil yellow gold cufflinks are dendrites, and they occur naturally during crystal formation. As a result, each occurrence is a one-off, meaning they are totally unique. Ghislaine G, founder of GG, swapped the corporate world to pursue her passion for gemstones, so you know you’re buying the best. GG Jewels Dendritic agate cufflinks, £650; ggjewels.co.uk

Slate Optic
Optics are fun when you want to play bartender, but until now they hadn’t really had the looks to cut it as a credible addition to any design-savvy household. Then this slate showstopper came along, and suddenly the humble optic has become more than acceptable. Not only is the piece practical – it’s easy to use, fits standard long-necked bottle sizes, and pours precise 25ml shots – but it’s sleek too, handmade from hand-picked slate in Lancashire, with a base in resin-coated copper, brass or aluminium. £249, authorinteriors.com

Rollneck Jumper
Forget novelty jumpers this Christmas, and buy one that will last longer than a day. This cashmere rollneck jumper from Luca Faloni is a perfect example. Knitted in Italy with prestigious two-ply pure cashmere from Cariaggi Fine Yarns Collection, it is luxuriously soft and light. The iconic dolce vita neckline is both timeless and distinguished, and the jumper is breathable enough to wear from autumn through to spring. lucafaloni.com

Brogues
Give the gift of classic British design with this dapper pair of semi-brogues, which are the result of five generations of shoemaking heritage. Part of Loake’s new 1880 Legacy collection, the Goodyear-welted, high-grade leather shoes are designed to represent the company’s time-honoured expertise combined with its flair for innovative design. £265; loake.co.uk

Black tie
Whether it’s for a winter wedding or a gala dinner, every man needs a decent black-tie get-up. Assuming the dinner suit is already taken care of, it’s time to look after the rest of the outfit. You can’t go wrong with quintessentially British label Hackett. The cotton shirt (£110), silk bow tie (£50) and mother-of-pearl dress studs (£85) make up the core. Add some polka braces (£120) for an extra sartorial twist. Of course, if you have a suitably swanky event before the 25th, you may just have to treat yourself. hackett.com

Scented Candle
Christmas in candle form: the clean, fresh scent of pine mingles with floral ho wood and cool Siberian fir in McKinley & Paget’s Cabin Candle. The good news is you won’t need to hoover up a single pine needle. Even better is that these plant-powered home fragrance experts only use essential oils, cotton-linen wicks and a coconut wax blend to craft their candles. £27; mckinleyandpaget.com

Cocktail ring
When it comes to gemstones, Harry Winston doesn’t do things by halves, as this stunning piece attests. The new ‘Winston Candy’ range of one-of-a-kind cocktail rings was inspired by archival sketches that utilised vibrant gems in unexpected shades. Based on these renderings, Winston’s designers created modern interpretations reminiscent of brightly coloured candies. With a central 16.32ct red spinel – an extremely rare example of the already desirable stone – surrounded by 8.36cts of pink sapphires, 0.6cts of yellow sapphires, and 1.45cts of diamonds set in platinum, this piece looks good enough to eat. (Don’t though, obviously.) £POA; harrywinston.com

Dining Table
This is one you might want to unwrap before the big day, as if there’s one way to add a modern style slant to your Christmas lunch, it’s by serving it on the Tangle dining table by Bonaldo. The base of the piece gives the table its name, inspired by a ‘tangle’ of roots, but here crafted from tubular metal components with a wood, glass, ceramic or marble top. £3,646; chaplins.co.uk
