With their song 'Get Over It', Midwestern band Social Animals have penned a couplet for the lockdown era.
"Now I'm not one to work through it," sings frontman Dedric Clark. "I called in sick and I'm sticking to it."
As Clark says when asked asked for his top lockdown tip: "Don’t open the country back up too quickly."
Here's a tip of ours: add Social Animals to your lockdown playlist. And read the interview below (obviously).
Life
What upcoming project(s) are you most excited about?
Getting this album to the listeners.
So far, it looks like we might have started that process at literally the worst time in the last century to release music. So we’ll probably try to wait that out. It’ll be worth it.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment?
Getting to continue playing and writing music with my best friends.
If you could change one thing about your career, what would it be?
To have never compromised artistic decisions just to have a product available.
What do you hope to achieve that you haven’t yet?
Get a 3.6/10 Pitchfork review.
Outside of your family, who is / was your biggest inspiration?
John Prine or Paul Westerberg.
Tell us something nobody knows about you…
I created the Enya Ditch.
The Enya Ditch is when you get hammered, take all the money in your pocket (minimum $10), find the jukebox or TouchTunes in a crowded bar, and load up as many back to back Only Times by Enya as you can, then leave like you’re walking slow-motion away from an explosion.
Lockdown
How are you finding lockdown?
A bit depressing, but not much different from my normal life when not on tour.
Best thing about lockdown?
Writing time. Demo time. A fairly respectable shower schedule.
Worst thing about lockdown?
Online shopping. Just bought a stand for my headphones to hang on for some reason. Sucks.
Top tip for surviving lockdown?
Don’t open the country back up too quickly.
If you could be locked down with one person, alive or dead, who would it be?
Alive.
What are you most looking forward to doing once lockdown is over?
Playing music for people where they can watch us through their phones at a concert, instead of through their phones at home.
