Londoners were weeping into their Pisco Sours last year when Peruvian restaurant Andina was evicted from its Shoreditch digs.
However the story has a happy ending: Andina has found a new, even bigger home in Spitalfields and we’re glad to report the delicious food and sparkling cocktails have survived the journey unaffected. Moreover the restaurant now boasts its own Latin American speakeasy in the basement, Bar Mistura to ensure the evening needn’t end with the eating.
Want one more piece of good news? To celebrate the 200th anniversary of Peruvian Independent this July, Andina launched a special Discovery menu priced at a mere £29pp. With £5 Pisco Sours until 29 July – although the menu will run indefinitely – let the fiesta commence.
What to eat?
As much as possible! Andina is one of those amazing places where the food is generally light enough to be served with plenty of flavour but minimal sprinkles of waistline guilt.
At least one ceviche goes without saying: the Don Ceviche (sea bass, tiger’s mile, sweet potato) is a particular joy. Grilled octopus with butter bean, lúcuma purée is obviously great, ditto beef fillet, corn purée and escabeche sauce. You don’t need us to tell you that.
But even the more modest options hold their own: the corn cake is good enough to start fights and the Cassava and cheeseballs are worth the resulting extra ten minutes on the treadmill. Dad bods are still in, right?
What to drink?
Cocktails, amigo! You can’t really not order a Pisco Sour or two – it’s Peru’s national cocktail after all. They’re only £5 until Friday 29 July so you better get down quick.
Indeed there are plenty of Peruvian twists on established classics: a Negroni served with 1615 Acholado pisco or the Chilcanos, the Peruvian version of a gin and tonic.
Plus wine, if you feel that way inclined. But obviously we went for cocktails because we’re young and cool like that.
How much will it cost?
A mere £29pp if you order from the Discovery Menu – which includes all the above dishes bar the cheeseballs (but you also get pork belly bites and pumpkin donuts).
It’s a stonking deal that will be running for the foreseeable future following its popularity when launched for Independence Day.
Cocktails come around the £9 mark so you’ll legitimately likely to spend more on booze than food – just as it should be!
Anything else to note?
Still thirsty? Pop downstairs to Bar Mistura – the basement speakeasy directly below Andina.
Serving plenty of pisco (naturally) and Latin American vibes, it’s the perfect way to round off your evening, or potentially get it started…
