There’s a reason we say ‘there’s only one Kentucky’.

Certainly, there’s only one Kentucky Derby, and only Kentucky can lay claim to being the horse capital of the world. Some 400 thoroughbred horse farms around Lexington bear out this title – to get up close and personal with all kinds of equines, visit the Kentucky Horse Park, a 1,200-acre working farm that’s home to about 115 horses representing some 50 breeds.

But there’s a great deal more that makes Kentucky unlike any other place in the world. Almost all of the world’s bourbon is produced in the state, and the distilleries that are in Bourbon Country, including those along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, offer distinctive tastes and tours. Smaller artisanal distilleries are dotted throughout the state, reflecting this same pride in craftsmanship. Experience Louisville’s Urban Bourbon Trail, where some 30 restaurants and bars all offer at least 50 different bourbon labels with trained staff who can explain the nuances and tasting notes of each brand.

Natural beauty here is unsurpassed. There’s only one Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, located in our spectacular western lakes region, and in the impressive eastern mountains you’ll find the rugged Red River Gorge, a magnet for hikers and rock climbers. Adding to the unparalleled outdoor adventure is Kentucky’s Mammoth Cave National Park, the world’s longest cave system.

History, arts and culture also distinguish the Bluegrass state. Kentucky is the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis, leaders of the opposing sides in the American Civil War. Muhammad Ali and the father of Bluegrass music, Bill Monroe, also were born here. There are sites and museums dedicated to these and other influential Americans. And of course, Colonel Sanders perfected his secret recipe and launched his global empire from the café that you can still visit.

There’s only one Kentucky, and it’s waiting for you to discover!
