Nigerian footballer, Wilfred Ndidi, has been rated the 8th best player in the Premiership by WhoScored. The 23-year-old defensive midfielder, who currently plays for Leicester City, has been in excellent form for the past two seasons. As a result, he is stirring interest for some big-name clubs.

As well as playing for the Foxes, Ndidi is also an established member of the Super Eagles – the Nigerian senior national football team. Evidence of his great form is confirmed by the fact that the young Nigerian has been confirmed as the best tackler in the Premiership this last season and in the season prior to that.

Leicester City had a devastatingly poor end to their 2019/2020 Premiership campaign when in their very last fixture, they were beaten 2-0 at the King Power Stadium by Manchester United.

Before the match kicked off, the Foxes had high hopes of a top-four finish. They were in fifth position one point behind Manchester United in third and Chelsea in fourth. Crucially, their future was in their own hands for, had they beaten the Red Devils, they would have secured fourth spot. Their defeat meant that they missed out on a Champions League place next season.

In the aftermath of the game, Ndidi issued a tweet saying that the players were a bit disappointed to finish fifth, but that overall, Leicester had had a great season. He went on to thank the Foxes fans for being with them despite the reality of the closed-door scenario caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. He finished by saying it had been a good season to learn from and grow into next season.

Excellent sentiments, but it hides the painful fact that the club ended the season with nothing to show for it - not even Champions League football in the upcoming season. It is a situation that sparks comments on the rumour mill about the possibility of a summer transfer for the young Nigerian.

Given the great form that Ndidi has shown, not over just one season, but two, even the most loyal Foxes fan would have to agree that a move could well be on the cards. It has already been suggested that Manchester United might be interested in the defensive midfielder, and they were sure to have been impressed by his performance when the two teams met in the last game of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur could also be interested as they desperately need some more bite in midfield and Ndidi would be perfect.

Wilfred Ndidi is not the only Nigerian player that Leicester City have on their books. They have another 23-year-old, Kelechi Promise Iheanacho. He also plays for the Super Eagles, and both men are said to be great friends off the pitch.

There have also been rumours about Iheanacho's future at Leicester. Speculation that manager Brendan Rogers was looking to sign attackers and that selling the Nigerian forward might fund such additions, have now been quashed by Rogers himself. He has categorically denied any such intention.
